The Schenectady Foundation (TSF) was established in 1962 as a philanthropic trust to assist and promote the welfare of Schenectady County, NY. Income from the investment of assets
contributed through estate plans is used strategically to make grants that help non-profit organizations and programs effectively serve people in our community.
The mission of The Schenectady Foundation is to achieve sustainable improvement in the health and welfare of people, organizations and neighborhoods in Schenectady County through
the investment of philanthropic resources.
TSF is a community foundation with a difference! We are the only community foundation exclusively serving Schenectady County. By developing a major endowment for our community
TSF is able to make significant grants that truly have an impact. Because we make grants to a variety of organizations, causes and issues, TSF is the best way for donors to serve
the entire community for the long-term.
Did you know that...
- As a volunteer organization TSF has minimal internal expenses. This means more of contributed assets go to support the community.
- Most assets are unrestricted, enabling TSF to make significant grants that address current community needs and issues.
- TSF identifies key issues on which to focus its grants. TSF has provided substantial support to programs in the fields of Health Care, Maternal & Child Health, Child Care, Child Mental Health, Youth Achievement, and Arts, Civic and Cultural projects.
- TSF's new strategic focus is Strengthening Families - working to enable families to have the capacity to support the success of their children as individuals, and as members of their family and community.
- Since its inception the Foundation has granted more than $11 million to non-profit organizations and programs that benefit the people who live or work in Schenectady County.
