The Schenectady Foundation - A Shared Hope for Our Community

Each of us holds a hope for our community and a desire to make it better. The Schenectady Foundation offers a unique opportunity to plant a seed that will grow, mature and yield benefits for our community for years to come. When you make a gift to The Schenectady Foundation, your charitable resources will be used to achieve meaningful change – allowing you to leave an enduring legacy felt by generations.

Grants from The Schenectady Foundation are currently focused in three main areas:

Healthy Children

Our vision is that Schenectady County will offer outstanding services for raising healthy children. Foundation grants help enable more of Schenectady’s children to be born healthy, to reach appropriate developmental milestones, to receive quality child care and to enter school ready to learn.

Community Health

The Foundation has supported the overall health and basic needs of people and neighborhoods in Schenectady County through grants to our hospitals, community health facilities, libraries, colleges, museums and nonprofit organizations. The Foundation’s grants also recognize the importance of arts, history and cultural venues.

Youth Achievement

The Foundation provides youth (grades 1-12) with opportunities -- scholarships, tutoring, literacy programs and safe places to learn, play and participate in the arts -- that lead to scholastic achievement, strengthen their family connections and help them attain skills, experience and knowledge that contribute to their success after graduation.

The Foundation may also make grants to programs outside these focus areas based on the relevance and importance of the program, the need for funding, and its likelihood of success.
