Supporting the Arts, Enriching the Community
The Schenectady Foundation Helps Fund Proctor’s Theatre Expansion
The Foundation provides grants to institutions that define Schenectady today as well as link us to our rich history, such as our cultural jewel, Proctor’s Theater. When Proctors made the decision to expand into the former Carl Company and upgrade so that it could offer a broader range of entertainment and arts in education programs, The Schenectady Foundation was pleased to be a part its growth.
The Schenectady Foundation grant is helping this cultural jewel double its available space, offer more nights of entertainment, add a wide format film theatre and intensify its commitment to arts in education for the region’s young people. Beyond the traditional school days program in the big theatre space, education residencies will expand into school classrooms and into the Carl building.
A proposed 450-seat black box theatre and multipurpose breakout rooms will form Proctors: The Next Stage, which will allow Proctors to more than double the number of children’s programs. Among these will be a large increase in School Day Performances, including dance, drama, music and multicultural programs; an expansion of hands-on internships though Youth Summer Institutes; access to more than 2,500 large-format educational films; and more room and flexible space for small-group instruction.
The Schenectady Foundation is proud to help Proctors become the theater destination for upstate New York.
