John L. Erbacher
John Erbacher wished to honor the memory of his wife Anna, a passionate educator. He established a trust fund providing income for the Anna Hudson Erbacher Scholarship - a four year college scholarship for Schenectady County students intending to pursue a teaching career. Dozens of students have benefited from this scholarship program. Through 2004 the Foundation's Distribution Committee had granted $xxx, xxx in scholarship awards from the Erbacher fund.
Born in Palenville, NY, Erbacher lived in the Schenectady area since 1915. He was an accountant in the apparatus sales department of General Electric, and was employed by GE for 40 years, retiring in 1955. He died in 1973 at the age of 83.
His wife, Anna Hudson Erbacher had died six years earlier in 1967. A teacher in the Schenectady School system, Anna taught at Riverside school in Schenectady's stockade area when it was first opened. She graduated from NY University with both a master's and bachelor's degree in Education.
