Become a contributor
There are several ways to make a gift to The Schenectady Foundation.
Bequests, Trusts and Appreciated Assets
The most common way people have chosen to support the Foundation is by making a bequest in their will. You may leave a specific amount to be distributed to the Foundation, or a percentage of the residual of your estate.
You may prefer to work with your attorney or tax advisor to establish a trust and naming The Schenectady Foundation as a beneficiary of the income from the trust.
Gifts of cash, stock or other appreciated assets may also be accepted.
Unrestricted Gifts
Most contributors have decided that an unrestricted gift to the Foundation is the best way to serve their interest in the community over the long-term. In that way their gift will support projects and programs that are responsive to current needs.
However, you may wish to specify that some or all of your contribution be used for a particular purpose, issue or cause. If you choose to make a restricted gift, you should discuss your intent with the Foundation in advance to ensure that your goals are understood and can be appropriately managed.
Recognition
Donors to The Schenectady Foundation are acknowledged in printed materials, on this website, and through the grant program. Many grants have been made in honor of Foundation donors, and the Grants Committee regularly considers naming opportunities to provide community recognition for donors.
