Transformative Partnership

Because no single organization or program can address the complex and interwoven issues of the community, the Foundation works to connect organizations, enabling them to take advantage of each other's strengths through collaboration and partnership.

Our work is focused in five core areas:

Weekend Backpack Partnership

Did you know more than 90% of Schenectady City School District students qualify for free or reduced lunches? Food insecurity has been identified as a major community issue in Schenectady County. Many children lack access to a reliable source of nutritious food over the weekend. As a result, malnutrition and anxiety from not knowing where the next meal is coming from impacts school performance.  The Weekend Backpack Partnership was created to reduce food insecurity for elementary school children.  Learn more.

Call to Action for Schenectady's Youth

The Call to Action for Schenectady’s Youth is mobilizing a community-wide effort to support the success of Schenectady’s underserved young people through three priorities:  Mentoring, Employment and Civic Engagement.  Too many of our children and teens are growing up hindered by the inequities and trauma imposed by poverty and racism. The impact of these obstacles is reflected by a host of factors such as limited education and employment, teen pregnancy and involvement in the criminal justice system. This can be changed through our collective efforts. Learn more.

The STEM Alliance

The Schenectady STEM Alliance is a coalition working to bridge the divide between under-resourced students and the growing opportunities in Tech Valley. By increasing collaboration between private industry, non-profit, higher education and K-12 resources, we can more effectively build awareness for and improve access to STEM educational and career opportunities. Learn more.

Moving from poverty to sustainability

Schenectady Bridges is an on-going multi-sector movement to create sustainable, transformative change for the under-resourced citizens of our community. In collaboration with City Mission of Schenectady and other community organizations, the Foundation has helped to champion the Bridges movement, promoting a framework linking social, business, education, healthcare, and faith-based sectors to remove barriers for families working to move out of poverty.   Learn more.

Neighborhood Revitalization

The Foundation is stepping up its commitment to improving conditions in Schenectady neighborhoods, including health, housing, employment and the urban environment. By removing or preventing blight, making more and better green space, addressing health disparities and stimulating economic activity, we can begin to reverse the negative trends we see in some parts of the City.  Learn more about what we've done, and what we intend to achieve in the future.
